Environmental and social responsibility lies at the heart of the philosophy of the Hôtel du Palais. This commitment takes the form of concrete actions aiming to preserve its natural environment, reduce its carbon footprint, and support the local economy. From its choice of suppliers to resource management, the well-being of its teams, and raising guests’ awareness, each initiative focuses on sustainability, without ever compromising either the comfort or excellence of its services.
During their stays, guests are invited to participate in the hotel’s eco-responsible approach in a few simple gestures, by choosing, for example, how frequently their towels are changed, a measure aiming to minimize water consumption. In the same vein, a dry steam cleaning system has been adopted for the rooms, which also provides for a more limited use of harmful products. As part of a resource recovery approach, used solid soap is collected and entrusted to the SapoCycle association. Which gives it a second life through a recycling process carried out by handicapped people, with soap thus recycled, then distributed to families in need.
The Hôtel du Palais is committed to sustainable gastronomy, giving a place of honour to seasonal produce from short-circuit suppliers, completed by what is grown in its vegetable garden in the park. In the fight against waste, the hotel uses the smart Orbisk monitor which analyzes food waste and thus optimizes bio-waste management, among other things. This waste is sorted and collected by Les Alchimistes du Pays Basque to be transformed into compost. As for social responsibility, the Hôtel du Palais has been working since 2022 with “Des Étoiles et des Femmes” which focuses on professional integration of women in difficulty into the world of hospitality.
Overlooking the Atlantic, the hotel’s Californian-style pool blends harmoniously with the scenery. To encourage sustainable water management, it is filled directly from the ocean. In the same spirit, recovery tanks have been installed in the gardens allowing for rainwater to be used in their maintenance. These practices (and more) are being developed all year long thanks to the support of the hotel staff, sensitive to the cause and following continuous training in environmental issues. As proof of this commitment and in recognition of its constant efforts, the Hôtel du Palais was rewarded in 2025 by the Green Key label and the VERIFIED Responsible Hospitality badge awarded by the Forbes Travel Guide.
The “Foulée des Festayres” solidarity race recently witnessed dedicated participation on the part of the Hôtel du Palais, which competed in “joëlette” wheelchairs in partnership with the “Joëlettes du Coeur” association which provides support for the handicapped.
